Visiting Scholar: R. JULIAN SINCLAIR
Shabbat and the Environment
Rabbi Julian Sinclair is a novelist, tour guide and scholar of Jewish Mysticism, living in Jerusalem with his wife, Yaffa and their four children. His major research interests include imagination and creativity in Jewish Mysticism, and religious-secular dialogue. His dynamic and original walking tours have been featured in the London Jewish Chronicle and the New York Jewish Week.
Julian holds a BA (First Class Honours) in Philosophy Politics and Economics, from Oxford, and an MPA from Harvard. He has Orthodox rabbinic ordination and studied in the Mandel Jerusalem Fellows programme . From 1999-2003 he was Jewish Chaplain at Cambridge University, where he co-founded the CUlanu Jewish Student Centre, and also taught in the Divinity School. He is completing his Phd on the thought of the twentieth century mystic, Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook. Julian's first book "Let's Schmooze" is published by Continuum Books, June 2007. His first novel, "Ends of Heaven" will be published in 2008. Julian is Co-founder and Director of Research for Tikun Olam: Jewish Initiative on Climate Change.
