Rabbi Yonatan Cohen

Drashot (Sermons)

R. Cohen joined our community after receiving ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah (YCT), the Modern Orthodox Rabbinical School in Manhattan, NY. He was born in Israel and grew up in Montreal, Canada. R. Cohen completed a B.A. in Philosophy at McGill University, and studied at Kollel Torah Mitzion, the Metivta and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. During his rabbinical studies, R. Cohen led a Beit Midrash program for teenagers in Montclair, New Jersey, taught adult education classes at the JCC of Manhattan, and trained as a chaplain at the Florence Nightingale Health Center. He also served as the rabbinic intern at the Hebrew Institute of White Plains together with his wife, Frayda Gonshor, who served as the shul's first congregational intern.

In 2006, R. Cohen joined a rabbinical delegation to El Salvador, organized by AJWS, which focused on issues of social justice and Tikkun Olam. R. Cohen is passionate about teaching Midrash and Halakha, poetry and prayer and Jewish thought. He is also excited about leading community events that integrate children and adults.

Please feel free to contact R. Cohen, attend his classes or meet with him for a cup of coffee.
