Caring
CBI’s caring initiatives include:
Shifra Puah Meals
The CBI Family joyfully provides meals for every family blessed with the birth of a child, ensuring they are nourished and supported during this special time.
Bikkur Cholim
Our rabbi and members of our CBI family regularly visit the sick. If you know of someone who would appreciate a call or visit, please contact our rabbi or our office.
Chevrah Kaddisha and Shiva Services
CBI’s Chevrah Kaddisha was the first of its kind in the East Bay. For over 30 years, members of our Chevrah Kaddisha have provided loving and attentive care, free of charge, to those whose memories still fill our lives. The CBI Family also makes all arrangements for Shiva services and meals while cultivating a loving and supportive atmosphere for those in mourning. For more information, contact our coordinator.
Connecting
Community Building
The Community Building Team brings our CBI family together through meaningful social gatherings and shared experiences. From book groups and movie nights to intergenerational Shabbat meals and Havdalah gatherings, this committee fosters connection, friendship, and joy across our diverse community. Whether creating opportunities for reflection, celebration, or simply enjoying each other’s company, the Community Building Team ensures that our synagogue remains a vibrant, welcoming home for all.
Mah Jongg
Tuesdays, 12:00 – 3:00 pm @ CBI
CBI’s Mah Jongg group meets weekly and is open to players that know how to play and already have their National Mah Jongg Play Card. Beginners are also invited to come learn how to play with Marti Zedeck.
CBI Sisterhood
CBI Sisterhood is dedicated to Jewish education and community building, supporting our community with tzedekah, chesed and learning activities. We design programs to feature our members’ rich experiences, expertise and talents. We also have ongoing interest groups, which currently include a book club and a knitter-weaver group.
The energy and interests of the members drive the year’s programming – please join us and bring your ideas. Planning meetings are open to all members. Our membership includes women from the entire Berkeley Jewish community.
